Getting Started with Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2016 Cluster Edition for Linux*

Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2016 Cluster Edition includes high-performance C/C++ and Fortran compilers; performance and parallel libraries; error checking, code robustness, performance profiling, and threading assistance tools.

Prerequisites

To initialize the Intel Parallel Studio XE tools,

1. From a command prompt or script, cd to <install-dir>/parallel_studio_xe_2016.<update number>.<package number>\bin
   By default, <install-dir> is:
   • For root installations: /opt/intel
   • For non-root installations: $HOME/intel
2. Enter source psxevars.sh   or source psxevars.csh.
   

 

Build and debug your code

Use the following components to build optimized executables and libraries.

NOTE: use the compiler configuration script to configure the compiler and the related libraries listed below. See the compiler documentation for more information:

• Intel® C++ Compiler 16.0 - a high-performance, optimized C and C++ cross compiler with the capability of offloading compute-intensive code to Intel® Many Integrated Core Architecture (Intel® MIC Architecture) as well as Intel® HD Graphics, and executing on multiple execution units by using Intel® Cilk™ parallel extensions.
• Intel® Fortran Compiler 16.0 - a high-performance, optimized Fortran compiler.
• Enhanced GNU* Project Debugger (GDB)
  • GDB 7.8 for debugging applications natively on IA-32 or Intel® 64 Architecture systems.
  • GDB 7.8 for debugging applications remotely on Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor systems.
  • Intel® Debugger for Heterogeneous Compute 2016 - source level debug of code offloaded to Intel® Graphics Technology.
• Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives (Intel® IPP) 9.0 - a software library that can help you optimize compute-intense applications.
• Intel® Math Kernel Library (Intel® MKL) 11.3  - a computing math library of highly optimized, extensively threaded routines for applications that require maximum performance.
• Intel® Threading Building Blocks (Intel® TBB) 4.4 - a template-based runtime library that can help you harness the latent performance of multicore processors.
• Intel® MPI Library 5.1 - a high-performance MPI library.
• Intel® MPI Benchmarks 4.1 - a set of MPI kernel tests to verify the performance of your cluster or MPI implementation.
• Intel® Data Analytics Acceleration Library (Intel® DAAL) 2016 -  a C++ and Java API library of optimized analytics building blocks for all data analysis stages, from data acquisition to data mining and machine learning. Essential for engineering high performance Big Data applications.

Detect errors and improve performance

Use the following components to detect various errors and improve performance of your application:

• Intel® Advisor XE 2016 - vectorization optimization and thread prototyping.
• Intel® Inspector XE 2016 - memory and thread debugger.
• Intel® VTune™ Amplifier XE 2016 - performance profiler.
• Intel® Trace Analyzer and Collector 9.1 - MPI communications performance profiler and correctness checker.
• Intel® Cluster Checker 3.0 - verification of your system’s Intel® Cluster Ready compliance. To check for Intel Cluster Ready compliance, you may download and install the Intel® Cluster Checker product from the Intel® Registration Center or email cluster@intel.com.
