Intel® VTune™ Amplifier
Intel® VTune™ Amplifier introduces analysis types targeted for software tuning. Use the amplxe-cl command tool to run the following algorithm analysis types:
Basic Hotspots analysis helps understand application flow and identify sections of code that get a lot of execution time (hotspots).
Use the following command line syntax to run the Basic Hotspot analysis from the command line:
$ amplxe-cl -collect hotspots [<-knob> <knob_name=knob_option>] [--] <target>
For the most current information on available knobs (configuration options) for the Basic Hotspots analysis, enter:
$ amplxe-cl -help collect hotspots
This example shows how to run the Basic Hotspots analysis on myApplication with predefined settings:
$ amplxe-cl -collect hotspots -- home/test/myApplication
Advanced Hotspots analysis uses the OS kernel support or VTune Amplifier kernel driver to extend the Hotspots analysis by collecting call stacks, context switch and statistical call count data as well as analyzing the CPI (Cycles Per Instruction) metric.
Use the following command line syntax to run the Advanced Hotspots analysis from the command line:
$ amplxe-cl -collect advanced-hotspots [<-knob> [knob_name=knob_option]] [--] <target>
For the most current information on available knobs (configuration options) for the Advanced Hotspots analysis, enter:
$ amplxe-cl -help collect advanced-hotspots
This example shows how to run the Advanced Hotspots analysis on myApplication with CPU sampling interval set to 10 ms:
$ amplxe-cl -collect advanced-hotspots -knob sampling-interval=10 -- home/test/myApplication
Concurrency analysis collects data on how an application is using available logical CPU cores, discovers where parallelism is incurring synchronization overhead, and identifies potential candidates for parallelization. This analysis type uses user-mode sampling and tracing collection.
Use the following command line syntax to run the Concurrency analysis from the command line:
$ amplxe-cl -collect concurrency [<-knob> <knob_name=knob_option>] [--] <target>
For the most current information on available knobs (configuration options) for the Concurrency analysis, enter:
$ amplxe-cl -help collect concurrency
This example shows how to run the Concurrency analysis on myApplication with predefined settings:
$ amplxe-cl -collect concurrency -- home/test/myApplication
Locks and Waits analysis identifies where an application is waiting on synchronization objects or I/O operations, and discovers how these waits affect the application performance. This analysis type uses user-mode sampling and tracing collection.
Use the following command line syntax to run the Locks and Waits analysis from the command line:
$ amplxe-cl -collect locksandwaits [<-knob> <knob_name=knob_option>] [--] <target>
For the most current information on available knobs (configuration options) for the Locks and Waits analysis, enter:
amplxe-cl -help collect locksandwaits
This example shows how to run the Locks and Waits analysis on myApplication with enabled GPU usage analysis based on DirectX pipeline events:
$ amplxe-cl -collect locksandwaits -knob enable-gpu-usage=true -- home/test/myApplication
